The theme for International Museum Day 2022, The Power of Museums, recognises museums as “incomparable places of discovery” that “teach us about our past and open our minds to new ideas”. These avenues are key components in building a better future, and museums, as spaces for education, intellectual discourse, and continual research, thus hold an immense power to shape the thoughts, behaviours, and actions of people. Museum professionals are, by extension, in a privileged position to harness this power to continually seek novel ways of engaging visitors to stay relevant to its context, and to seek ways to build a better future together as a community. In the face of rising challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and threats of Climate Change, the National Heritage Board (NHB), International Council of Museums (ICOM) Singapore, and the Museum Roundtable hope to expand their focus to build a museum community that is committed to being innovative in the face of challenges, being sustainable and environmentally conscious and being consciously aware of engaging the youth in charting fresh perspectives and new directions for the museum landscape.
